The recent announcement and articles of the pending divorce of Katy Perry and her husband of 14 months reflect that Russell Brand may obtain as much as 20 million from community assets of the marriage. The couple did not sign a prenup prior to marrying.
This is just the latest example which reflects the need to adjust our laws dealing with community property in California and elsewhere. Which is that community property should be adjusted to reflect the number of years in the marriage and not community assets the moment of marriage!
This would act to protect both men and women from someone seeking to take advantage of a temporary situation/marriage.
