A retired law enforcement officer, I am unable to to convey the depth of my frustration at the lack of consequences against individuals who file false allegations against the other parent. In a take no prisoner scenario, these actions are done in an attempt to gain an advantage in custody and other issues. An issue that in past years may have been primarily targeted against men, is now increasingly being filed against women. Regardless of who is filing against whom it is wrong and a violation of the penal code.
Whether a police report for stalking or other actions or for false child abuse allegations, physical or sexual abuse, individuals do so without fear of any consequences. Not by law enforcement, the District Attorney’s Office or Family Law. The scenario is to detriment of all. Especially children who are submitted to numerous interviews during the process of investigating the allegation, as well as physical examinations in some situations.
Even when proven false, allegations can follow an individual for many years impacting their future, their job and their career. Even more so now, since many states have set up a suspected child abuse registry.
The registry was intended to identify individuals where evidence may not have been sufficient to file charges/convict and children were at risk if these “suspected child abusers” were allowed to work or be around children through their employment or volunteer work etc. However, the result is that many individuals going through a high conflict divorce have had their names placed on their state’s registry.
But my frustration is magnified ten fold when these false allegations are filed against the men and women in our military. Men and women who are fighting for our country at great personal sacrifice and potential loss of life.
We at Custody Calculations help guide our clients on how to impact this scenario, to reduce/stop or document for court. Information that I have not seen posted on other websites or provided on other blogs.
